Services

Here’s a few exciting examples of Amateurs in action!

Emergency Communications

When disasters strike and normal communications are knocked out, amateur radio operators step in to provide emergency communications. Whether it be severe weather such as tornadoes or hurricanes, wild fires, or earthquakes, amateur radio operators provide critical communications in the devastated areas. SKYWARN

During weather warnings (severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes), the amateur radio SKYWARN network is activated. Dedicated radio operators provide detailed and timely observations to the network and the weather service. These reports provide early warnings of severe weather conditions to potentially save lives and provide current road conditions and damage reports in the communities. Field Day

Every year, during the 4th full weekend in January and June, amateur radio operators get on the airwaves to see how many stations they can work. It gets radio operators away from their cozy homes and takes them into mobile communication trailers and tents, relying on batteries or solar to power their radio equipment. It is a lot of fun and is very competitive – allowing clubs and individuals to earn coveted awards. For more information, click the button above.
